Flor de Albihar 2020

The white Albillo Real has been renamed and is now the 2020 Flor de Albihar. It was produced with grapes purchased from paraje El Diezgal in the village of Cebreros, a warmer place within Gredos where the variety thrives. I found the nose to be completely unusual, very herbal with notes of rhubarb and celery. The grapes were picked the 6th of August, very early, and the wine is only 11% alcohol, lower than in 2019, and that doesn't reach the minimum required by the appellation, so this year it's sold without the appellation of origin. It has vibrant acidity and a sharp profile, very different from the majority of Albillo Real. The wine is unfined and unfiltered and shows quite cloudy. It matured in tinaja followed by two months in a large oak vat. Very unusual. They have the idea to plant Albillo at higher altitudes. 3,467 bottles produced.
