There is now a white 2019 Lafont from grapes from a vineyard planted in 1975 in the village of La Font de la Figuera on limestone soils at 700 meters in altitude. They wanted a white that is fresh and austere, expressing the salty minerality of the soils above the varietal character. It mostly fermented in concrete, but a small portion fermented in barrel. It matured in concrete with lees for six months. It's faintly balsamic, more austere than aromatic, clearly not floral and not the Malvasía most people might think about, as this is the Malvasía Riojana or Subirat Parent/Alarije, a more neutral, non-aromatic variety. With time, it develops notes of pollen and herbs, and the palate is balanced, dry, serious, long, with fine minerality, great length and a salty finish. This feels like a good start... 3,800 bottles were filled in April 2020.
